What's New (or at least interesting)?
This is where we'll announce the most recent
additions to our website and/or our business. If you've visited us before and want to know what's
changed, take a look here first (new items are listed first).
-
The
Roseville Press Tribune announced it's 2010 Best of the Best Winners! A
Dash of Panache won BEST Event Facility and BEST Caterers! Thank
you for voting for us!
-
The KCRA A*List Results were released and A Dash of
Panache took 2nd place for the 2010 contest. Thank you for all who took time
to vote for us at Best Tea House! Here are the results over the
past few years:
2010 Contest (2nd Place)
2009 Contest (4th Place)
2008 Contest (5th Place)
- The North SAC News ran an article, Tea for
Two? written by Tina Fontenot who visited our parlor in April.
Click here to read the article (to clarify a few "misunderstandings" in
the article: we didn't buy the building, and only Saturday nights are reserved
for private events because we're closed during the day on Saturday).
- Fox 40 News at 11am invited the owners of A Dash of
Panache (Scott & Karen Alvord) to demonstrate a High Tea during their Cooking
segment (in the Fox 40 Cafe), hosted by Paul Robins.
photos, and video clip.

New Hours of Operation! Because the
economy has hit our industry hard, we have had to modify our hours of
operation to focus on the busiest times of the week. This is an important cost
saving measure and we're sorry if it causes any inconvenience. If you have a
larger group wanting to attend outside of normal hours, please
Contact Us.

Our Ice Cream Parlor was
presented with the Best of Roseville 2010 award (matches our 2009 & 2008 award
we received previously too) in the Ice Cream Parlor
category! Each year, the US Local Business Association recognizes outstanding
local businesses in specific cities and in various categories throughout the
country. A Dash of Panache was identified as a company that has "achieved
exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category"
AND "has enhanced the positive image of small business through service to
their customers and community."
Well golly jeepers (blushing), thanky!
- SAD NEWS. The beauty of celebrating friendships
over tea includes having a variety of tea parlors to patronize. The greater
Sacramento area is losing tea parlors at an alarming rate due to the
economical stress our country is experiencing. Having many
tea parlors to choose from actually builds the "going to tea" industry over
time because more and more people get involved without getting bored of the
same old thing. We are still open (Thank you Lord) but we are not exempt from financial stress.
We, like all of the other parlors in the area, are barely holding on
(financially) and
waiting for the economy to swing back in our favor. We are very sad to hear
about the many recent fatalities/changes in the tea parlor industry.
Some (we couldn't keep up with all of them) of the local closings/retirements include:
- Hina's Tea in Sacramento announced that they are
closing shop sometime in April 2010. Hina Soni's shop has been a favorite
place to relax and drink tea by college students and other tea lovers.
According to their website on 4/10, they are being evicted. No details yet on
whether or not they'll reopen somewhere else.
- Treasured Tea Time in Sacramento closed its
doors on December 28, 2009 after nine years of
serving the greater Sacramento area. Cheryl is
a wonderful lady and her decision to close her
beautiful parlor and gift shop brings pain to
our industry but gives her more time to spend
time with her husband who works across the
country.
- My Cup of Tea in Grass Valley is closing in December
2009 after 3 years of operation. The owner, Nita Jacoben, has been a wonderful
contribution to the tea industry and she is also a very nice lady. The
community will miss she and her daughter.
- A Maad Tea Party Cafe in El Dorado Hills closed
earlier in 2009 then re-opened again and is now closed again (fall 2009). We
dropped by to enjoy their service and found it was completely empty inside.
The economy is cruel to our industry.
- An Afternoon to Remember in Newcastle. Amy Lawrence
has run this beautiful and high-quality tea parlor (an "A*List" winner) for 6
years and we had often referred guests to her on days that we could not
accommodate them. With a sad heart, Amy notified her huge following that the
last day she'll be open will be June 12, 2009. This is a HUGE LOSS for the region.
Luckily Amy will still be active in the Tea Sippers Society, cookbooks, and
many other tea-related endeavors.
- A Cup of Tea in Town & Country Village (Sacramento).
Karen has run a wonderful upscale tea parlor and had to close her doors in
January 2009. Our tea industry is going to miss them.
- Rose Mountain Manor in Colfax closed after 8
wonderful years of operating as a unique Bed & Breakfast (and tea parlor).
Barbara Bowers, the Innkeeper, will still be "inn sitting" around the area.
- Partea Time in Historic Folsom. Kathy's Victorian
tea parlor was a cute addition to the downtown Folsom area. It was shocking
news to hear she had to close the doors sometime around September 2008.
- Earl Grey Manor in Old Sacramento. They closed their
doors for the last time on August 11, 2008 after 3 years. They offered a
variety of experiences to our common clientele and they will be missed.
- Elegant Garden in Orangevale. To watch them close the
doors to this 2 million dollar Victorian House was painful for all of us. They moved from
the Birdcage mall to this beautiful building and we were stunned to hear they
closed the doors.
- The American Girl Friendship Club had several fun
sessions. If you are interested in future sessions, please sign up for our
Mailing List.
- We're now offering FREE Wireless Internet access to
our guests (yes, we're now an Internet Cafe if you'd like).
- We have been asked over and over to include a
Testimonials page (seriously). Sorry it took so long.
-
We ran our first radio spot on KKFS 103.9 FM The FISH
in regards to our Holiday High Tea! Click on the logo to the right to hear the
MP3 audio clip!
- There are Media Coverage and Internet
Links below.
- We held our Grand Opening on September 13,
2005 at
11:00am.
- Joined the Roseville Chamber of Commerce in August
2005. Our owners have served on its Revitalization Committee since that time.
- We joined the Downtown Roseville Merchants, Inc. in 2004.
One of our owners, Scott Alvord, was elected as Vice President that same term
and then elected President in 2005 (and has been re-elected President every
year since then). Scott says, "It's a great board of directors and I'm
honored to be a part of their organization. We all work pretty hard to help
our Unique, Historical, and Cultural downtown area flourish!"
- We added a very handy Calendar of Events for fast lookup of available events, etc.

These are the press releases we've issued.
You may want also want to search for
topics by keyword.
- Downtown Roseville Merchants, Inc.
We are proud to be members of this association and are excited about the
opportunities downtown as well as the wonderful business owners we associate
with. If you haven't strolled around down here, you are really missing out
on a fun experience. This truly is the Heart of Roseville, the ONLY
place in Roseville where our community can experience HISTORY (the downtown
area is where Roseville began), CULTURE (Downtown Tuesday Nights, Christmas
Tree Lighting, Street of Wreaths, various parades, military ceremonies, Family Fun Night,
etc.), and UNIQUE shops and businesses that can't be found anywhere else in
the world!
